Biography
Professor Zhang Chunyi is a distinguished scientist recognized as a National Outstanding Agricultural Scientific Research Talent and a member of the National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project. Serving as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Crop Science at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), his research focuses on plant micronutrient metabolism, maize functional genomics, and crop nutrient fortification. Since 2009, Professor Zhang has led the China Crop Nutrient Fortification Project, orchestrating a multidisciplinary team from over 30 institutions to address micronutrient deficiencies in the Chinese population. His pioneering work includes innovation in crop folic acid fortification and the development of the maize EMS mutant library platform. He has spearheaded major national initiatives, including the 973 Program and the National Transgenic Major Project, publishing over 40 high-impact papers in elite journals such as Molecular Plant, The Plant Cell, and Plant Physiology.
